PAWD Convention 2008

Theme:

Water Districts: Enhancing Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Water Supply

Invitation

Our Colleagues in the Water Industry:

You are cordialy invited to the 29th National Convention of the Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) to be held from February 6 to 8, 2008 at the Pryce Plaza in Cagayan de Oro City.

The convention's theme, "Water Districts: Enhancing Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Water Supply", underscores the water districts' efforts to improve even more their services in the countryside. The theme is timely because of the impending problem of water scarcity. Recent reports say that some parts of the country will no longer have water supply in 2025. Water is a vital resource for human survival and economic development; but as populations and economies grow, water demand increases while the availability of the resources remains constant.

To avert water shortage, it is imperative for the water districts to enhance their Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) capability. IWRM is a systematic process for the sustainable development, allocation and monitoring of the uses of water resources in the context of social, economic and environmental objectives. It is a logical and intuitively appealing concept in which the many uses of finite water resources are interdependent.

Do not miss out this opportunity to keep abreast of the latest trends in integrated water resources management.

See you at the convention in the City of Golden Friendship.

The Venue

Known as the City of Golden Friendship, Cagayan de Oro City is the gateway to the Northern Mindanao.

It is geographically nested between the central coastline of Macajalar Bay to the North and the naturally rich plateaus and mountains of Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte to the South. The municipality of Opol bounds the City on the west while the municipality of Tagoloan, with its heavy industrial activities, is its immediate neighbor to the east.

The largest city in Northern Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro City's history dates back many centuries before the Spaniards came to Cagayan when the territory was called Kalambagohan. Its main town, Himologan, was a hilltop fortress situated some eight kilometers south of the present Poblacion.

Cagayan de Oro became a chartered city pursuant to Republic Act No. 521 signed into law by former President Elpidio Quirino on June 15, 1950. Since then, the city's socio-economic order underwent some far-reaching changes. Activities grew in scale and importance until developed as the administrative center for the entire Northern Mindanao.

Today, Cagayan de Oro City is one of the fastest growing cities in the country with warm and friendly settlers who are always ready to welcome and accommodate visitors.

Visitors of the city will surely enjoy some tourist attractions susch as: Pueblo de Oro Gold and Country Club, Vicente de Lara Park, La Castilla, The Cathedral Museo de Oro & Xavier University, Catanico Falls, Seminary Hill, Glema Stoneware, Palalan Waterfall, Monifue Cave and Huluga Cave.
